The soft furnishing course takes on a more flexible modular form for the new year, so you can pick and choose what skills you want to learn.
This 3 hour module teaches you to be confident in making your own cushions from fabric of your choice. You can further your skills if you wish to take the curtain making module, or impress your friends and family and learn to make your own roman blinds.
What skills will I learn?
You will learn all about cutting and joining bias fabric strips, covering piping cord and inserting piping around the cushion, insertion of an easy zip closure and also learn an even easier envelope closure! We will also discuss how to make an Oxford style cushion with zip in the back.
What will I make?
You will make a square or rectangular cushion in fabric of your own choice, with zip closure and piped edges, or an Oxford style cover with stitched border.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring about one metre of furnishing weight fabric (purchase more if you plan to make matching cushions) with matching thread and a zipper that is approximately the width of the cushion you wish to cover (longer is fine – we can shorten it). In the spirit of recycling – zips can often be removed from other items and re-used, and curtains can also be recycled if you choose.
Cushion pads can be purchased for £1.50 or you can bring your own cushion pad. Please let me know if you need to purchase one.
Piping cord will be supplied
Refreshments will be provided.
How will I be taught?
A mixture of tutor demonstration and practical guidance will ensure that you will complete your cushion in class, and have the ability and confidence to make many variations when you go home!
