What skills will I learn?
You will learn about the different types of dissolving and vanishing fabrics which allow you to create fine lacy structures and three dimensional applique. We will also learn to use vanishing fabrics to support fine applique structures prior to raw edge applique. Free machine embroidery is incorporated in this technique and it is advisable to be familiar with the the technique of free motion stitching first.
What will I make?
This is a day of experimenting with learning techniques and is not designed to produce a finished project. You will end up with a portfolio of instructions and samples to take forward into your own project at home or to develop your skills at the Wednesday evening club.
What do I need to bring?
Fabrics and soluble materials will be provided. Please bring along a selection of your machine embroidery threads and an embroidery hoop if you have a particular one you like. Teas and coffee will be provided but as this is a day class you will need to bring a packed lunch, or take a trip into town to visit one of the many café’s or bakeries.
How will I be taught?
We will examine various samples and techniques which will be demonstrated by the tutor before you get to work……or play …..on your own samples! We will look at possible applications of this type of machine embroidery, and you will enjoy seeing what your imagination and thread can do, especially when you wash away the soluble fabric to reveal something truly unique!
