The soft furnishing course takes on a modular form this year, so you can pick and choose what skills you need! The Masterclass curtain making module will teach you to measure, pattern match and complete a sample curtain with mitred hand finished hems, interlining, lining and hand pleated buckram heading for a sumptuous and expensive looking curtain which is made to measure.
What skills will I learn?
- How to measure and estimate fabric requirements,
- learn about cutting and pattern placement,
- pattern matching lengths,
- interlining for warmth and volume
- linings and hems,
- weights and mitering corners,
- hand pleated headings
- calculating pleat sizes and spacing
- hanging and curtain dressing tips.
What will I make?
Workroom space is limited and full sized curtains are not possible in a group class. We will make a sample curtain, interlined, lined and headed with buckram with a hand pleated finish.
What do I need to bring?
The cost of the class includes fabric, interlining and lining and heading tape or buckram for your sample curtain, so you don’t need to bring anything! Tea and coffee will be provided, don’t forget to bring lunch!
How will I be taught?
Tutorials and practical demonstrations will give you skills to complete your samples. Some hand stitching tuition for hemming and attaching linings and pleating.
